I'll start by saying that 18-24 months tends to be the roughest age group to be photographed. A lot of factors are at play: independence, stranger anxiety, over-stimulation, and the uncanny ability to know exactly what you want them to do {which means they will do the exact opposite}. I have a 20 month old girl - I totally get it!
I also want to reassure parents that I will take the time necessary to capture a nice gallery of your child - even on their most upset day. I have never not been able to capture a full gallery of images that display a child's personality.
Keegan is a sweet 18 month old who showed off lots of different aspects of her personality.
Take a look at her gallery slideshow video:
We captured a lot of great images of Keegan but two factors were at play on the day of her session - she wasn't having it and I {my card} lost the outdoor images. This has never happened before. EVER. But it happened. Maybe that day wasn't meant for Keegan and I.
As embarrassing as it is - I think it is important to share this. Although I have never lost images before, it happened to this session. Mom, Dad, and I all had to work extra hard to capture great images of Keegan. We finished up in the studio and decided to head out to take some images in the wild flower field.
All went well.
And then, I downloaded the images. All the in-studio images were there but only 1 of the outdoor images. WHAT!?!?!?!
I think my entire body went into shock.
As embarrassing and sickening as it was - I had to write Keegan's mama and tell her what happened. Thank GOD she was amazing about the situation!
The reason I shared this is because it is important for you to know that if the worst thing happens - I own it. And, in my contract I have a clause that stipulates what happens if this should happen. There is no cost to the session, we re-shoot the session at your convenience, and you receive a print credit with my pro printing company.
I created a nice gallery of in-studio images, and in a couple of months we are going to re-do the family/outdoor portion.
LESSON LEARNED: my nice pro-grade camera has two card slots. You can use the second card slot for back-up or over-fill. From now on, BOTH slots will have a card in and the second card won't be formatted until it is full OR the galleries completed.
NOW BACK TO KEEGAN!
One of the many reasons you choose an independent professional photographer {that truly is a professional} is not only for the customized session, but time. Some sessions are quick and some sessions require more time to help a child feel comfortable.
And sometimes, we just need to be creative. You'll see below here what I'm talking about. Keegan only sat on the stool once {she was done with it after that} and I had a couple of nice face images of her sitting with her mama. So we merged them together to give us a more dynamic gallery and pleasing image.
And a collage!
